DotNetNuke Module Development

Web Application Framework is a robust software library used as the basis for building advanced Web applications. A Web Application Framework typically contains a well-defined architecture and an abstract set of reusable components that are specifically designed to simplify development, enforce consistency, increase productivity, and improve application quality. Typical features include modular architecture, membership management, security and role management, site organization and navigation, error and event logging, data access and caching, search and syndication, and extensibility at every level. Frameworks are used in corporations, public sector, private sector, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and even individual Web sites.

Although the concept has always been relevant, Web Application Frameworks have just come back into favor in recent years. This is likely a result of the ever-pervasive basic business philosophy emphasizing a reduction in the Total Cost of Ownership and increase in the Return On Investment. Web Application Frameworks can provide big wins in both of these categories because they allow developers to focus on the high-level business processes while leveraging a rock-solid application foundation.

DotNetNuke is a Web Application Framework that provides a highly extensible development environment, based on published standards and proven design patterns. Since Web Application Frameworks are generic by nature, they can be used as the underpinnings for any number of powerful Web applications. From Community Portals to high volume E-Commerce shopping malls, from Content Management Systems (CMS) to Customer Relationship Management Systems (CRM), the DotNetNuke Web Application Framework provides the fundamental services to build highly functional and scalable Web applications. To back up this claim, the DotNetNuke Web Application Framework is distributed as part of a fully functional CMS - the DotNetNuke Enterprise Portal.

Symbyo Technologies provides DotNetNuke module development services and DotNetNuke Skins. Please contact us for more information about our DNN module development offering.

Beating Your Competition in the Search Engines!

Search engine optimization (SEO) is actually more complicated than most people realize. After all, not every business needs results from the search engines. Some businesses only need local results. Then there are businesses that rely on search engines for 100% of their revenue.

Once you figure out what your basic needs are, then you have to determine who your real online competition is. In traditional terms, your competition is the business down the street. On the Internet, however, your competition is the website that is beating you out on your keywords. Your competition might not even sell the same products or services as you. If he is getting your search engine traffic, he is the competition.

Know Your Keywords

Your keywords are your “turf” on the Internet. Your success depends on two things. First, what are the keywords that represent your products or services? You should be able to figure that out on your own. Secondly, what are the keywords your clients are searching for when they want the products or services you offer?

Let’s say that you sell cars. If you sell Chevrolet vehicles, you can easily guess a few keywords. It is not a surprise that “Chevrolet dealership” is a key phrase. Since your prospective customers are generally searching within one city, you do not have to beat out the whole world for “Chevrolet Dealership”. You must have to beat out the local competitors. Phrases such as “Chevrolet Dealership Houston” or “Houston Chevrolet Dealership”, will be easier to target and will produce your best results.

Know the Competition

Search Google.com, Yahoo.com, msn.com, and see who comes up in the top five results for your most important keywords. It does not matter if those sites sell cars. You want to be on top for your phrase so whatever comes up … that is your competition.

Beat Them at Their Own Game

Analyze those sites for the most common SEO tactics. Then whatever they are doing, you should one-up them in every respect.

Here are a few tips on what to look for:

Keyword frequency – How many times do they use the words you are targeting? Count them. Use those words and phrases more frequently and more times.

Inbound links – How many links do they have coming in? Search google.com using this format: link:www.anythinginternet.com

Prominent Keywords – Bolded keywords, keywords in the website address, keywords in the title bar, and keywords in headings are all considered important.

There are many other things to look for. I recommend you hire a professional SEO consultant if search engine results are important to you. These tips will help you optimize a few of the most obvious parts of your web page. There are a lot more things to do. You want your keywords in your page title, your META tags, and you want to optimize every page on your website.

Increasing the number of inbound links can be a lot of work. If your competition has a lot of these, you should hire a professional to help you compete. Experts can add hundreds of new inbound links for you quite easily.

If you make changes to your website, prepare to wait a long time for those changes to be 100% effective. Some things could take six months to become fully effective.

Why Do You Need Search Engine Optimisation and Marketing?

If you want to run a successful website or blog, you must work on both on-page and off-page. Some of the webmasters may disagree to this statement. Some would say, if you can develop a good product or if you can cater a good service, you do not need SEO or SEM. People will come to you and people would talk about you – and your users would become your marketing nodes.

Do you think whatever they are saying is true?

On the surface level, their statement may seem valid and to the point but lets take a look at it from another perspective.

Say for example, you are running a shop in your locality. Now if the business runs successfully, you would definitely see your competitors are popping up in good numbers. If there is a market need, the number of competitors would naturally grow.

Now do you think, when the number of competitors are growing, you can have the same volume of business using the same business tactics? Do you really think only product quality would keep your business volume intact throughout the years!

If your answer is yes, there might be something wrong in your understanding – there had been something missing and you simply failed to understand the dynamic nature of consumers.

And if you think that, you must change the business tactics to stay ahead of your competitors and focus on the market need, you are moving in the right direction and you have high chances to win over your competitors (as a pioneer in that business and market segment, you would definitely have an edge over your competitors).

Now, the web is much bigger in size than your locality. Do you really think a good product is good enough to get you more business? If you track the history of web startups, you would see that a lot of business (both product and service based) have failed due to poor marketing strategy.

It is never enough to develop a good product or service; you must inform your target group about. It may sound harsh but the reality is that if you do not have a target market you do not have a product to sell.

Why do you think people think so much about creating a brand? They spend millions of Dollars to create, promote and sustain a brand in the market. And now think about the web where you might need to fight with the world to establish your business and just quality of the product is not the only criterion here.

Search engine optimisation and marketing strategies have changed a lot over the years. It is not just about optimizing a website or getting good quality links to improve search engine ranking for niche keywords. If you take a look at the recent trends, you would see that, it is more about link positioning and creating a user friendly atmosphere. SEO and SEM is now a way to inform people about your product, marketing it online, promoting it in search engine result pages for niche key phrases and many more.

It is also about creating an online brand identity where the tools are different from offline market. And you need to constantly monitor latest web developments to provide your users a better experience and make netizens talk about you.
If you still have any doubt about the need of SEO and SEM, you may contact a local SEO company or some SEO expert to know in detail.

Are you Keyword Stuffing?

What exactly is keyword stuffing and why should you avoid using it on your website?

Keyword Stuffing is using your keywords too often on your web page. It is quite literally "stuffing" the keyword in as often as you can in the hope that your page will rank high with the search engines.

It's a classic Black Hat SEO trick that continues to get websites banned from Google and any of the other search engines that take a dim view of this type of trick.

Of course like all of the Black Hat techniques it did work at one time and that is why some many people used it. These days most of the search engines are wise to is and frequently rank pages low that are seen to be using it.

However a lot of people end up stuffing quite innocently. When you are concentrating on writing a page to promote a keyword it becomes very easy to subconsciously keep using the keyword. Before you know where you are, you have crossed the line and started to enter into keyword stuffing territory.

So where is the dividing line between good keyword density and stuffing?

The search engines all keep this threshold to themselves as they know that if we knew at what point a keyword is overused then we would all write our pages up to that maximum and no more.

So if the search engines will not tell us where the limit is, how do we know where to draw the line?

The trick is to let the search engines show you what they consider to be good keyword density and to do this you simply type in your keyword and then take a look at the top four or five sites that they list. Check how often those pages use the keyword phrase and also pay attention to where they are using it.

In my experience most good sites will have the keywords mentioned once in the title tag, once in the description meta tag, once in one of the heading tags and then they will mention it three or four times through the copy on the page.

Of course three or four might be too many times if the page has very little text. Some experts quote that a keyword can be used safely every 400 to 500 words. That seems reasonable from some of the sites I've seen. However you should check some pages for yourself and get used to the keyword density that is being used on the high ranking sites.

Target Better Sales With Your Search Engine Marketing Campaign

When a visitor comes to your website, he is expecting to crack a deal with you, but at the same time you too need to be convincing enough to provide him things that fit his requirement . Here are a few factors which will help you realize the core competence of a website and you can bring out the best from your search engine marketing campaign.

The first criteria of building a successful search engine marketing campaign is to have a well constructed website. A well constructed website is one, which has all the required ingredients which contribute towards the success of search engine marketing. Your website is useful to the user only if it is providing him with adequate information and satisfactory services. Hence, make sure that you describe the features of your website quite clearly. Do not go round and round on the same subject. Be precise and confident about everything that you say in your website.

Always remember that you are not the only one who is providing these services Online. The internet industry is so wide that there must be thousands of other websites too who provide similar services to their clients. Thus, to make your services unique and different from others, provide some kind of an incentive or a added value to the visitors of your website. This will give them a satisfactory feel and they will be more comfortable in dealing with you.

The Basics of Search Engine Optimization

The more search engine friendly your website is, the better your rankings will be in the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN Live Search. Several years ago, few web designers paid much attention to SEO, but today it is the lifeblood of every website. If your website isn't optimized, it should be!

What Is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Basically, search engines navigate or "crawl" through your website when they find it, building a database of the content on your webpages as they go. If a search engine can crawl through your website easily without encountering trouble, then your website is considered SEO-friendly.

When SEO Goes Bad

There are a number of problems that a site crawler can encounter when visiting your website. Most of these problems can be easily avoided. Exclusively using graphics or Flash animation without actual text is sure as death for your website as far as the search engines are concerned. A site crawler can't look at the graphics on your page. You should always add alt-tags to your graphics to help the search engine "understand" your website.

Forgetting to add page titles, descriptions, and other meta-tag information to your website is also a big "no-no" where SEO is concerned. These tags are embedded into the head section of your webpage and can help web crawlers easily understand what is on your page. Some crawlers ignore certain meta-tag codes, but most meta-tags are quite useful for creating SEO-friendly websites.

Add Content to Your Website

Building a website without content is another sure-fire way to keep your rankings low on the major search engines. If you're website doesn't have anything on it, then it will not show up very high in the search engine's index. You can correct this by adding quality content to your website by writing articles, showcasing press releases and using words to describe your products or services, rather than just showing a single picture.

Don't Cheat the System

One of the things that will get your website kicked off of the search engines is when you try to cheat the system. Some companies claim that they can increase your search engine rankings and guarantee top placement on Google or other such outlandish claims. Nobody can make these types of guarantees and you should never pay for an SEO service that says that they can.

Basics of SEO for Online Marketing

Base is an essential part for any types of good structures, but basics of SEO is everything of SEO because no one is remaining after it. In basics of SEO you learn about one page and off page optimization for your site and then you learn some tricks related to link building to earn some quality traffic, keep in mind that for online stability you must need quality traffics and quality traffics are not only beneficial for your site only, also give you lots of money if you are doing online marketing or provide any professional services.

Do you know difference between quality traffics and normal traffics?

Normal traffics are generally comes due to contextual link building and quality traffics are come from related area like if you site is related to SEO then your traffics also come from SEO related sites. And quality traffics are due to quality backlinks or due to link exchange with related site.

And above all will happen constantly if you know Basics of SEO and optimize your site by good ways like below.

1. Try to take url as short as possible with your primary keyword (It will not effect more but if your url also contain your keywords then one more plus point you have for search engines.)

2. Write your site contents by natural way, don’t try to copy contents from other related sites because nowadays google or other search engine will catch your soon and can ban your site.

3. When you are writing your site contents then try to put your keywords also by natural way because keywords place in your site contents are main to push your quality or ranking upside. Avoid keywords stuffing, means try to put your keywords once or two times in a paragraph, if you repeat your keywords again and again then it will sure penalize your site.

4. Start your keywords with H1, H2, H3 tags, We place our main keywords with H1 tags in starting of site contents, because crawler give importance to H1 tag, then you can place your secondary keywords with H2 tags, keep in mind that you can use these tags only one times in a web pages, and then locate your keywords with bold tag or italic tag in between of paragraph.

5. Put you main keywords always with your site title and avoid stop words.

6. In descriptions tag you should put relevant information of your site because when search engine will list your site then your descriptions show in below of your title and if your description are meaningful and related to your site then user will click on your site otherwise he will choose another sites, so try to keep all information (between 150 to 250 words) in description.

7. Keywords tag are not important tag for any site now, because crawler will crawl your site contents and after ratio of your H1, H2 , bold, italic and some more important tags they decide for keywords itself and index them. But you should put it because we don’t know what is current algorithms for quality sites and page rank and some search engines give importance also to keywords tag and index them but you have to put only that keywords who is placed in your site contents.

Above all are common way to optimize your site, if you are managing affiliate market related site then you have to maintain your affiliate link and try to avoid your affiliate links on homepage because most of popular search engine will not follow affiliate links because they contain some special character or use redirect method. So you should try to get more and more traffic on homepage to increase your ranking and then give links from your homepage to your another WebPages which are packed by your affiliate links.

Question - If I need to target a specific region, is it helpful to have a domain from that country?

Answer - Yes. Both hosting location and domain extension matter and can influence search engine ranking in regional search engines. If you are attempting to target a specific country, you could very well benefit from purchasing a domain with that countries extension and hosting the website on a server that is located in that country. The larger country specific search engines, generally rank local domains higher in the search results.

Question - What is the difference between Google's aging delay and the so called sandbox?

Answer - Great questions. The aging delay is often labeled and assumed to be the same as Google's famous sandbox (that may or may not exist). The Google aging delay is not a penalty, it is merely a filter. Google does not feel new websites are necessarily "trustworthy" so while they acknowledge that the new websites exist they don't generally include them in their search index results. They continue to monitor the new websites over time, paying particular attention to who and how many websites are linking to the new site. Gradually, as the site matures and gains a reasonable amount of links over time, Google will include the site as part of its search results. The sandbox refers to websites that are usually removed from the search index results. The removal is typically a penalty for what Google views as poor behavior as it relates to search engine optimization, spam, or web content.

Question - What does the Can-Spam Act actually mean?

Answer - CAN-SPAM is an acronym for Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act. The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003, came into effect in the United States as law on January 1, 2004. It establishes requirements for those who send commercial email, and spells out penalties for individuals and companies that choose to violate the law. The primary purpose of the act is to restrict the advertising or promoting of a commercial product or service (including content or a website) by defining guidelines.

Besides spelling out the penalties, the CAN-SPAM Act prohibits false or misleading header information. This means that you cannot "spoof" the 'to', 'from' or routing information, the sender must be accurately reflected.

The CAN-SPAM act also prohibits deceptive subject lines. In other words, the subject must relate to the actual message contents. Email recipients must be provided a method to opt-out of any future email. The opt-out requests must be complied within 10 days. The final large contingent that is stipulated by the CAN-SPAM act is that commercial emails must be identified as advertisements and must include the senders valid postal address.

Question - What is a sticky website and how do I make my website 'sticky'?

Answer - A sticky website refers to a website that attracts and retains customers. The best way to create a website that will be continually visited and returned to is by producing and creating new content. Give your website's visitors a reason to come back. Another component to stickiness is a good communication channel. This might mean providing the content via RSS, so visitors are immediately aware of any new information available. It might also mean an opt-in newsletter that is sent on a regularly scheduled basis.

Question - What is the Long Tail, and how do I get one?

Answer - The Long Tail pertains to a relatively simple concept, that capturing all of the the small volume will result in a collectively large volume. With regards to the keyword long tail, the idea is that there are only a few words or phrases that receive a large number of searchers, but there are a huge number of obscure phrases or keywords that receive a small number of searches each month. By capturing top ranking for all of the less popular terms you could in effect receive more traffic than you would if you had top ranking for the popular terms.

Capturing the keyword long tail, is very difficult. It requires massive amounts of unique content. Webmasters have generally found the easiest way to generate unique copy is through user-generated content (ie. forums, blog comments, or user reviews).

Question - What is deep linking? And How do I deep link my website?

Answer - Deep linking refers to links to all levels of a particular website. A website that has an extensive network of quality deep links, shows true value. By having incoming links to multiple webpages at all directory levels, the website is perceived as content rich by search engines. A website that only receives incoming links to the "front page" will not fair as well in search engines because the assumption is that it is not a content rich website.
